Independence is what every youth, nowadays, wants. By the time a person reaches legal age, he or she is given the freedom to go out of the house and take the chance to live and feel what it’s like to live on his or her own. He or she gets his or her own job and cooks his or her own meals. He or she finds the right apartment and later gets employment verification for the sake of getting a loan for a car, or a more promising place to live in (if things get pretty promising). This has been discussed time and again during family dinners, especially when having work and career becomes a topic. There are times a person just wants to try how it is like having one’s own place or living on one’s own means. This is usually out of the belief that independence is having oneself, do everything: pay the bills, do the cleaning, going to the grocery, so on and so forth. It may be a fulfilling feeling having to get that me-all-moi thing going, but it doesn’t always follow, especially when just starting.
There’s mom, there’s dad, there’s one or two older sibling, and there are friends. From finding the right place to getting furniture, is something that a person may need a buddy or two. Opinion matters especially when it’s coming from someone whose been-there-done-that type. There are even those who let mommy or daddy pay the apartment rent (for the meantime), especially if they insist (and if they do let them for a while, it gives enough time to save and doesn’t let their hearts’ crushed with their kid going away). A person may also find it comforting to have a friend as a housemate. One will definitely feel more secure, even his or her dear friend sees this as an advantage, especially in paying for the place. Independence doesn’t necessarily follow that one has to make ends-meet all by him or herself.
Independence is more on learning to make decisions. This is more similar to the issue of being liberated where each action is not always about doing what you want but being responsible for the given power. Making the right decisions can lead to a lot of fruitful activities that may be good means to help others as well, including your family. One must learn to be confident in everything he or she does and try to exceed the expectation of the people around him or her.
For those who are in special cases, like those who are differently-able (disabled), having independence is not an impossible thing to have. A PWD (person with disability), may have their own place and live normally. There are programs that may help a person in this case, find a place, and get a job and so on.
It’s not always about staying out late and getting the feel of freedom through partying. Independence actually serves the opposite. There are some who stated that since they got their own place they’ve been staying indoors as much as possible. This is the irony of living independently, they learn more than doing household chores.
La Independecia is one thing that a person should value once he comes of age. This way it will help clear one’s head from all the unnecessary action and see life like any responsible person should. No more childish tricks like getting loans from banks faking information (you’ll need an employment background check to attain this). It’s time to live life to the fullest—responsibly….
